O how you fell from the icy cliff of 8,848m- Mount Everest!
On June 8th, 1924
You vanished into the mists of surrounding summit.
When people asked why you wanted to risk all to climb the highest mountain,
You said, “Because it is there.”
When we live in this mundane world on flat land,
We just live on until we realize that there is the highest spiritual Mt. Everest.
Once we know, “It is there!”, we must climb up the mountain like you did.
How difficult it is to climb the mountain step by step in every day’s life!
Once we slip, it is a headlong downfall.
Remembering Sisyphus who fell down from a cliff in Greek myth.
Should we give up or challenge again?
There is a way to reach the summit.
Ancient saints and prophets reached the top and looked over the whole panoramic view of life.
Going up to the summit is a daily struggle.
Each day/night, climbing up the slippery rock,
The unknown vertical passage to the summit is our worthy struggle to meet God face to face.
W.B. Yeats said,
“I have spread my dreams under your feet.
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.”
I am looking up the summit from the pit of this world where my dreams have been treaded down.
Even I cannot see the summit because of the mists.
O my mental journey, Sisyphus’ dilemma.
After a 40 years journey, I am still at the foot of the sacred mountain without seeing the burning bush
To see the burning bush, I must have a sacred journey like Moses.
Leaving behind everything to meet God face to face.
There are so many dragging forces and shouts to come back.
I must close my physical eyes and ears to keep climbing the sacred Mount Everest
Until I reach the summit.
